About AfyaFund;

AfyaFund is a community-driven health crowdfunding platform dedicated to mobilizing resources for life-saving interventions in HIV/AIDS and Cancer care across East Africa. The name Afya, a Swahili word meaning health, captures our core purpose: to serve as a trusted Health Fund that transforms compassion into measurable impact.

AfyaFund was founded by Walio Katika Mapambano na AIDS Tanzania (WAMATA) (www.wamata.or.tz), Tanzania’s first HIV non-governmental organization and a long-standing advocate for the rights, dignity, and health of people living with HIV, and Fanikisha Elimu (www.fanikishaelimu.org), a Kenyan organization committed to advancing children’s lifelong learning and social well-being. Together, these trusted regional partners established AfyaFund in response to persistent healthcare inequities that continue to leave millions across East African countries, especially Watoto wa Jamii (children of the community) without adequate prevention, treatment, and supportive care.

AfyaFund is designed to bridge global generosity with local impact. Through a secure, transparent digital platform, we enable individuals, families, community groups, corporations, institutions, and global partners from all corners of the world to contribute directly to life-saving HIV and cancer interventions. Donations are pooled, managed, and disbursed through accountable governance structures and trusted implementing partners, ensuring that every contribution reaches its intended purpose efficiently and ethically.

Our mission is to transform donations into essential medical care, psychosocial support, and social protection services for children and families most affected by HIV and cancer. At a time when reductions in international funding threaten hard-won gains in care and treatment, AfyaFund provides a reliable mechanism to sustain and scale locally led solutions directing resources to where the need is greatest and the impact is most immediate.

More than a funding mechanism, AfyaFund is an East African movement driven by hope, powered by community solidarity, and firmly rooted in equity. We believe no child should be left behind because of illness, poverty, or circumstance, and that collective action across borders, sectors, and communities can turn generosity into lasting health impact for Watoto wa Jamii.
