About AfyaFund
AfyaFund is a community-driven health crowdfunding platform dedicated to mobilizing resources for life-saving interventions in HIV/AIDS and Cancer care for poor and vulnerable children. The name Afya, a Swahili word meaning 'health', reflects our core purpose: to serve as a trusted Health Fund that connects compassion with impact.
AfyaFund exists to channel the generosity of individuals, institutions, and global partners into real-world solutions. Through verified stories of need and transparent fund management, we mobilize, steward, and disburse resources that improve health outcomes, protect lives, and expand equitable access to quality healthcare, particularly for vulnerable and underserved children in East Africa.
Founded by Walio Katika Mapambano na AIDS Tanzania (WAMATA), Tanzania’s pioneering HIV organization established in 1989 (www.wamata.or.tz), AfyaFund was created in response to persistent healthcare inequities that continue to leave millions without adequate care. Our mission is to close these gaps by transforming donations into essential medical, psychosocial, and social support services for those most affected.
More than a funding mechanism, AfyaFund is a movement, driven by hope, powered by community solidarity, and firmly rooted in equity. We believe that no child should be left behind because of illness, poverty, or circumstance, and that collective action can turn generosity into lasting health impact
